This privacy policy describes how Heritage Scan AI (“the App”) handles information when you use our Android application published under the package name com.heritagescan.ai.

1. Summary
Heritage Scan AI is an entertainment app that analyses a selfie on your device to suggest possible country mix, ethnicity-style breakdown, and an ancient-civilization match. Results are not DNA or genealogical proof. The App may show advertisements through Google AdMob (bottom banner and full-screen formats). We do not require you to create an account.
- Photos you choose are processed on your device; we do not upload your face photos to our servers.
- Scan summaries and optional thumbnails may be stored locally on your phone so your profile stays consistent when you return.
- Sharing results uses your device’s share sheet; we do not receive what you send to other apps.
2. Information the App processes
- Photos and camera. If you take a selfie or pick an image from your gallery, the image is used only on-device for facial analysis (face detection, landmark points, and an on-device AI model). We do not receive or store your photos on our servers.
- Facial analysis data. The App derives numerical face descriptors and generated result summaries (country percentages, ethnicity-style labels, civilization match). These may be saved in your device’s local storage together with an optional thumbnail of your last scan and a local face library (limited number of profiles).
- App preferences. Settings such as share-unlock state and scan counters are stored locally on your device.
- Advertising. If enabled, Google AdMob may use identifiers and technical data to deliver and measure ads, including an adaptive bottom banner and interstitial ads (e.g. before later scans). In the UK/EEA, consent may be requested via Google’s User Messaging Platform before personalised ads. Google’s use of data is governed by Google’s Privacy Policy and your Google/ad choices where applicable.
- Network. Internet access is used to load on-device AI model files bundled with the App and to support advertising SDKs. Core face analysis does not require sending your photo to our backend.
3. Permissions
The App may request:
- Camera — to take a front-facing selfie for analysis.
- Photos / media — to choose an existing image from your gallery.
- Internet — for ads and app assets as described above.
4. Third-party services
- Google Mobile Ads (AdMob). Banner and interstitial advertising. Google Privacy Policy.
- Google Play. Distribution and updates via the Play Store; see Google’s policies for store-related data.
- On-device libraries. Face detection and ONNX-based inference run locally on your device.
5. Legal bases (UK / EEA)
Where UK GDPR / GDPR applies, we rely on appropriate bases such as performance of a contract (providing the App), legitimate interests (operating and securing the service), and consent where required (e.g. certain ad personalisation, depending on implementation and your choices).
6. Children
The App is not directed at children under 13 (or the digital consent age in your country). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
7. Your rights
Because most processing is on-device, you can delete local data by clearing the App’s storage or uninstalling. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, rectify, erase, restrict, or object to certain processing, and to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (e.g. the ICO in the UK). 8. International transfers
Providers such as Google may process data in countries outside the UK/EEA with appropriate safeguards as described in their policies.
9. Changes
We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change when we do. Continued use of the App after changes constitutes acceptance where permitted by law.
